Learn how to turn used paper into beautiful new creations in one of our creative workshops. 

Born In Paper run regular workshops in and around our hometown of Byron Bay, and interstate. Founder, Susan, loves to travel, bringing the joy of papermaking with regular workshops in towns and cities along the East Coast of Australia.

A Born In Paper workshop makes for the perfect get-together, whether it be friends, workmates, or family (mother-daughter workshops are a real delight). We can also tailor the perfect group experience. 

Get your bridal party together to hand-make your very own beautiful eco-friendly wedding stationery that will be treasured forever, have a creative birthday party where everyone leaves with a unique gift or a baby shower where collectively you can make the mother-to-be a unique Baby's First Journal - the sky is the limit!

Born In Paper can come to your home, art or craft group, your local school, or run workshops at your festival or event. We'd love to talk with you about your ideas, so get in touch to start the process.

PAPER MAKING WORKSHOPS

Introduction to Paper Making & Drying and Pressing Flowers

Learn to make paper, add flowers, raw cotton and colours to make beautiful stationery. Learn to prepare your pulp, pull sheets of paper, press, dry, add seeds for gift tags, or try embossing the wet paper, the ideas for using the paper is endless. Loving flowers to keep forever, we will show you how to dry and press flowers quickly and easily. Workshop includes all you need to make your paper, a board to transport home your paper, flowers to press, and a chance to use your creative side.

Introduction to Book Binding

Learn to make a hard covered journal, binding together by using Japanese Stab technique, Coptic stitch or create a single signature Button Wrap journal where you learn to secure the button and leather in the covers of the journal.

Mullumbimby Saturday 23rd August 6pm to 8.30pm

What you will learn.

  • In this workshop you will make and learn how to layer and decoupage rice papers and beautiful paper napkins sourced from all around the world, to go onto fabric and waterproof them. You will make a large, and a small jute bag and also a make up/pencil case. So much to love about decoupage.

What you will learn.

  • In this workshop you will make and learn how to stitch two books. A hardcover journal that you will make from start to finish using Coptic Stitching.

  • You will make the covers, the signature’s of internal paper to stitch, using all the equipment you need.

  • You will also make a soft covered note book binding and learning how to score papers and create this beautiful stitch.

  • All covers are from Born In Paper handmade paper. If you are then keen to create your own, join us for our paper making workshops too.

What you will take home - Two books you have made - Information on the binding techniques.

​BOWRAL FULL DAY Workshop - 27th September 2025
All about making Handmade Paper, creating a Hard Cover Coptic Stitch Journal, Sculpt a bowl and make translucent paper for lights.  

In this one day workshop, Susan will guide her students to create their own beautiful paper which can be used for stationary, made into journals or a host of lovely projects such as bowls and paper lights. There is so much to create when you recycle and make handmade paper.

• At this workshop, you will make handmade paper, adding flowers, raw cotton, and colours to make beautiful stationery. You will learn how to prepare your pulp, pull sheets of paper, add seeds for gift tags, or try embossing the wet paper.

• You will also learn how to stitch a hardcover journal that you will make from start to finish using Coptic Stitching

We work with you to create an event to suit your needs. We'll offer our skills and bring the equipment needed to get you pressing your very own unique paper.

Be it wedding stationery, seeded place cards, or name tags on wedding thank you gifts... This is an affordable option as you are providing the venue and attendees.

Christmas or Birthday events, Hen's or a special Ladies Day, a group booking workshop is a lot of fun and can involve everyone.

Generally, our workshops will last three hours and include all materials and equipment. Price includes paper making tailored to what you want to make.

Born in Paper offers recycled and handmade paper and paper products made with love in our studio in the hills of Byron Bay. We use recycled office waste to create our eco-friendly and sustainable paper. We also offer papermaking and craft workshops and sell paper-making kits, including our Australian-made mould and deckle kits.
